Who is Eric?

Eric Burgers MA (b. 1971) is a freelance writer, reporter and editor based in Delft, the Netherlands. His areas of expertise include water management, spatial and urban development, earth sciences, arts and literature. He has researched and written on a wide range of subjects including climate change and adaptation, sustainability in the built environment, cultural heritage, arts education, and development cooperation.

Eric studied English at Leiden University (the Netherlands) and Salford University (UK) from 1989 to 1995, majoring in literature, language acquisition and translation studies. He is a sworn translator (1995) of English to Dutch.

Eric’s interests include science writing and education, arthouse cinema, classical music, early 20th century history, hard-boiled detective fiction, walking, cycling and swimming.

Experience

Able to understand and communicate both public and private interests, Eric has helped develop and produce several publications aiming to explain and disseminate information on the interaction between science, technology, design and society. Eric works in Dutch and English.

Clients include Delft University of Technology, Deltares (applied research institute for water and subsurface), the European Union’s Climate-KIC innovation initiative, the PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment, the municipality of Delft and development aid organisation Cordaid.
